Women’s soccer defeats Faulkner 3-1 in season opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (August 25, 2018) – The Webber International University women's soccer team got the Brian Fallon era started off on a great note, surging to a 3-1 win over Faulkner University on Saturday at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.

Webber (1-0) saw two goals come off the foot of Megan Warner, a transfer junior from Watford, England and West Herts College.

The Warriors' other goal came from Francesca Mascali, a junior from Tampa, Florida, who entered the season with four career goals after netting two as a freshman in 2016 and two as a sophomore in 2017.

Freshman goalkeeper Summer Simpson, from Riverview, Florida, made her first career start in goal and recorded the win while playing all 90 minutes.

Coach Fallon said, "It was an all-around effort to win the game. From our freshmen to our transfers to our returners, everyone stepped up to make a difference. As I have said before, we are going to work hard to make things happen for this program. I also want to recognize my staff who all made a difference in getting our soccer players recovered and prepared for today. Great job ladies, and great job coaches."

The Warriors will play at NJCAA Polk State College on Tuesday, August 28, in exhibition action, and then will return to regular-season action on Thursday, August 30, at NCAA Division-II Eckerd College at 5 p.m. In the last meeting between Webber and Eckerd in 2016, the Warriors were victorious by a score of 1-0.

Webber's first home match of 2018 will be on Thursday, September 6, against Florida National University at 3:30 p.m.
