Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s volleyball falls to conference foe St. Andrews

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2018) – The Webber International University men's volleyball team lost to St. Andrews University three sets to none (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday evening inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

Despite getting swept in three sets, Webber (2-7 overall, 2-3 Southwest Athletic Conference) was competitive in all three sets, including a third-set rally that fell just short.

The Warriors started the first set off with a five-point run to take the lead at 9-5. St. Andrews (11-4, 6-0) eventually tied the score at 10-10, and then after Webber evened the score up at 16-16, the Knights took control of the set with a four-point run that the Warriors couldn't recover from.

In all, St. Andrews finished the opening set on a 9-3 run, and it carried that momentum into the second set as the Knights took a 12-7 lead. Webber got back into it as a kill by Liam Gilchrist made it a three-point margin at 21-18, and then another kill by Gilchrist, followed by two kills by Zachary Ayala, made it 23-21 before St. Andrews finished it off to go ahead two sets to zero.

The third set started off slow for the Warriors as they trailed 8-2, 10-4, 16-7 and 20-9 before coming back with a big 9-1 run to cut the deficit to three points at 21-18 for the third set in a row. The late rally, however, would not be enough for the Warriors to catch all the way up to the Knights as the two teams traded points the rest of the way.

The Warriors were led by Gilchrist with nine kills, Kyle Robertson with 12 assists, and Christian Alvarez-Rivero with six digs.

The Warriors will be back at it tomorrow morning on Saturday, March 3, to take on another conference opponent, Campbellsville University, at 10 a.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
