Women’s basketball suffers loss on Senior Day

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 17, 2018) – The Webber International University women's basketball team finished its last game of the 2017-2018 season against Keiser University, falling by a score of 72-50 on Saturday afternoon inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

It was Senior Day for Ashley Perry, Tiffany Zito, Shayla McPhearson and Elise Hinson.

Perry finished her colligate basketball career with another near triple-double as she scored 24 points and had eight rebounds, seven steals and three blocks. It was Perry's third near triple-double in her last seven games of the season.

Other high scorers for the Warriors were Breyonna Reed and Montrese Weller, adding eight points apiece. Reed also had six rebounds and three steals while Zito finished with seven boards. McPhearson and Brianna Fuller finished with four and three assists, respectively.

Head Coach Grady Morrell spoke on his team's season, "Although our winning percentage this year was the not the best we have had during my time at Webber, I am proud of the way we battled and made it difficult for teams night in and night out. It was a tough season, and we had some highs and some lows, but the players never gave up."

The Warriors played tough out of the gate and only trailed Keiser by six points at halftime (35-29), but Webber also struggled on the boards being out-rebounded by the Seahawks 24-13 at the half. The Warriors also outshot the Seahawks in the opening half, finishing at 45.8 percent from the field (50 percent in the first quarter) compared to 37.1 percent from Keiser.

After trailing by as much as 15 in the third quarter, the Warriors cut the deficit all the way back down to five at 53-48 after a layup by Perry with 7:42 left in the game.

From there, the Warriors had no comeback left in them as Keiser expanded their lead and never looked back.

The Warriors finished the season with an overall record of 9-20, a Sun Conference record of 3-15, and a record of 6-9 at home. Meanwhile, Keiser finished its season at 7-22 overall and 4-14 in the conference.
