No. 25 baseball completes sweep of No. 20 Campbellsville

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (February 17, 2018) – The Warriors scored twice in the eighth inning to complete a comeback win over No. 20 Campbellsville University as the No. 25 Webber International University baseball team defeated the Tigers for the second time in two days. Webber took down Campbellsville 4-2 on Saturday before falling to No. 6 William Carey University 11-0 in seven innings.

Trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, Webber (4-9) tied the game as Tyree Austin singled through the hole at shortstop and then scored one batter later on a double down the left field line by Manny Rodriguez.

Next, after Jesse Coleman got through the top of the eighth stranding runners on first and second, the Warriors took the lead in the bottom half as a single to left by Garrett Martin scored Langston Provitt and then a sacrifice fly to left by Austin brought in Quirino Esquivel.

Donovan Bertoncini earned his first save of the season by pitching the ninth and inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

Starter Juan Terron finished with six innings pitched, seven hits, one earned run, one walk and six strikeouts while offensively, Martin led the Warriors with three hits followed by Rodriguez, Marcus Begg and Edquivel each with two.

In the late game against host William Carey, Webber gave up three runs in the first inning and five in the fourth and was never able to get anything going at the plate.

The Warriors' only hits in that one came from Brett Kaminski (2), Austin and Napo Ballestero.

The game against the Crusaders was also a complete 180 from the first meeting between the two teams on Friday (Feb. 16) when the Warriors belted out 10 hits and surrendered only one earned run compared to eight earned runs allowed on Saturday.

Next up, Webber will head back home and return to Sun Conference action against Ave Maria University on Friday, February 23 (6 p.m.), and Saturday, February 24 (13 p.m. / 3 p.m.).
