BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 6, 2018) – The Webber International University men's basketball team fell to Thomas University 86-70 on Thursday night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
It was the fourth straight loss and sixth loss in seven games for Webber, which fell to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in The Sun Conference. The 0-4 mark matches the Warriors' worst start in The Sun Conference since the 2011-12 season. Thomas continued its good start to TSC play, improving to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.
It was another great night for the former high school teammates from William T. Dwyer High School.
Tommie Luke scored a very impressive 31 points, connecting on 11-of-12 free throws while adding two 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
Austin Evans recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting.
It was Luke's seventh consecutive game with 20 or more points, and was his third game of 31 or more points during the streak. For Evans, it was his fourth-straight double-digit point performance and second double-double over that span.
Malik Morrow also had a nice overall performance with nine points on three 3-pointers while adding a team-high six rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
Rasheem Etienne and
Garrett Woodmansee were the other Warriors with multiple 3-pointers as Webber struggled to shoot it all night. The Warriors finished at only 31.5 percent shooting overall and 22.6 percent shooting from three for the game while Thomas shot over 51 percent from the field and over 42 percent from behind the arc.
Webber trailed by double digits at 16-6 only five and a half minutes into the game and then fell behind by 12 at 18-6 with 13:21 left in the first half.
The Warriors then got back to within two at 18-16 after a 10-0 run with 11:30 on the clock before falling behind by 10 again at 28-18 with 7:29 left. Things then got out of hand as Thomas led by as much as 23 at 49-26 during the final minute of the half.
The closest Webber would get in the second half was within 12 points, an occurrence that happened six different times with the Warriors being unable to break through to get within 10 each and every time.
The Warriors will battle the College of Coastal Georgia at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, in Brunswick, Georgia, in another TSC matchup, and then Webber will stay on the road to play Southeastern Baptist College for the second time this season at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, in Laurel, Mississippi.
