Men’s basketball kicks off Webber Christmas Shootout with a win

BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 17, 2018) – The Webber International University men's basketball team is officially on a winning streak as the Warriors earned their third straight win, taking down Toccoa Falls College 100-72 in what was the first of three games in three days during the Webber Christmas Shootout.

In addition to being the third straight win for Webber (7-7), it was also the Warriors' second straight game scoring 100 or more points and was the team's second straight win by at least 28 points.

Led by an extremely impressive 33 points on 14-of-19 shooting by Tommie Luke, the Warriors in all put five players in double figures in scoring as Kevin Grace finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and Rasheem Etienne, Simon Fransis and Austin Evans each added 10 points.

Evans also had 10 rebounds for his third career double-double and added two assists. Additionally, Luke also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals; Fransis had six rebounds; Grace has six boards, three steals and two assists; Etienne had four steals and three assists; and Georges Dorvilien had a career-high five rebounds.

Webber's great first half saw the Warriors shoot over 60 percent from the field while putting up 55 points. In the end, the Warriors still finished the game shooting over 53 percent overall.

The Warriors, who never trailed in the game, out-rebounded the Screaming Eagles by 20 (47-27) and outscored the opposition 36-16 in points off turnovers, 48-6 in fast break points, 19-1 in second chance points and 64-24 in points in the paint.

Webber's largest lead of 31 points (70-39) came with 14:50 left in the game.

Day two of the Webber Christmas Shootout will see the Warriors battle Johnson University – Florida at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, followed by the tournament's final game between Webber and NCAA Division-III Fontbonne University at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19.
