BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 17, 2018) – The Webber International University women's basketball team raced to an 86-40 victory over Toccoa Falls College on Monday inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
Webber (5-6) was benefited by a 25-0 run that began with three minutes left in the first quarter and ended five minutes into the second quarter, making it 38-8.
The Warriors shot 44.4 percent from the field in both the first and second quarters, shot extremely well in the third quarter at 50 percent and then shot 47.4 percent in the final quarter to finish at 46.6 percent for the game, all while holding Toccoa Falls to only 26.8 percent overall.
During the first quarter, Webber held the Screaming Eagles to only 18.8 percent shooting and eight points, and then held them to 12 points or under during each quarter the rest of the way while putting up at least 21 points in each of the last three quarters themselves.
The Warriors also held the Screaming Eagles to zero second chance points, winning the category 21-0 while also outscoring Toccoa Falls 56-14 on points in the paint, 29-7 on point off turnovers, 28-4 on fast break points and 33-14 on bench points.
Taniya Patrick led both teams in scoring and in rebounding with 20 points and seven boards, matching her career-high in scoring. The freshman from Baltimore, Maryland, did her damage on a strong 9-of-11 mark from the field while also adding three blocks.
Dysheka Price was next in scoring with a career-high 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting while adding five boards, and
Abby Unis also reached double-digits with 10 points and four rebounds. Additionally,
Montrese Weller had nine points;
Briana Williams and
Julie Moreau each had eight points;
Breyonna Reed had six points, seven assists and five steals;
Paris Copeland had six rebounds;
Erica Foote had a career-high four boards; and
Kadejah Huggins had a career-high eight assists.
"I fell as though our post players were outstanding today and gained a lot of confidence early on," said Head Coach
Grady Morrell.
Webber's final game before Christmas Break will come at home against Clarke University at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, as the Warriors look to make it two wins in a row.
