BOCA RATION, Fla. (December 12, 2018) – The Webber International University women's basketball team took on NCAA Division-II Lynn University in what was an exhibition game for both teams on Wednesday evening at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center in Boca Raton, Florida. The Warriors fell to the Fighting Knights by a final score of 78-54.
Taniya Patrick led Webber in both scoring and rebounding with 14 points and seven boards while also adding two blocks.
Paris Copeland was next with nine points and six rebounds, followed by
Breyonna Reed and
Dysheka Price each with eight points.
Kadejah Huggins added four rebounds and led Webber with three assists, and was one of four Warriors with at least two helpers.
Webber led 2-0 in the first quarter on a layup by Patrick and then led again at 9-8 after a 7-0 run. Then, toward the end of the first quarter, back-to-back 3-pointers by Price got the Warriors to within two both times before Webber trailed by only three at 22-19 after the first period.
It was a well-played opening quarter for both teams as each squad finished the period with eight made field goals while shooting at or above 50 percent from the field with Webber going 3-for-4 from three and Lynn going 5-for-9. Unfortunately, the Warriors would go on to miss each of their next 12 shots from long range to close out the contest.
In the second quarter, Webber used a second 7-0 run to get within two at 31-29 before a 10-0 run by Lynn put the Warriors into a 12-point hole at the half down 41-29.
Webber will have one more exhibition game as the Warriors take on Saint Leo University at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 14.
