Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s basketball earns second 10-point win against St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. (November 24, 2018) – In what was the first rendition of three games in three days in the state of North Carolina for the Warriors, the Webber International University men's basketball team started its tough road trip with a win against its sister school from North Carolina, St. Andrews University, 84-74, on Saturday.

Unlike the season opener in which Webber (4-3) scored 52 points in the first half and led by 14 at halftime before letting up 52 points in the second half, this time around on Saturday, the Warriors trailed by three (39-36) at the half before scoring 48 points over the final 20 minutes.

Similarly to the first meeting between the teams in which the Warriors made 13 3-pointers and shot 43.33 percent from downtown, Webber connected on 15 3-pointers while shooting 46.88 percent in this one.

Junior Malik Morrow was responsible for six of those 3-pointers, shooting 7-of-14 overall and 6-of-11 from three to finish with a career-high 22 points.

Tommie Luke was next in scoring with 20 points while adding six rebounds and five assists, the same assist total recorded by Nicholas Toledo. It was another stat-sheet stuffing performance against the Knights for Luke, who had 21 points, eight assists, six boards, two steals and a block in the first meeting against St. Andrews (2-5).

Garrett Woodmansee was 4-of-7 from three and 5-of-8 from the field with a career-high of his own in points with 14, and Rasheem Etienne (eight points) and Jonathan Philistin (career-high six points) both finished with two 3-pointers.

"It's always good to get a win on the road." said Head Coach Allen Corbin. "It is very hard to travel to new environments and have a different routine. We started off slowly, but eventually bought into what we do and turned things around. It was an entire team effort and we really had some new guys step up and fill roles well. We must focus on tomorrow's game now and play better than we did today."

Webber will continue its three-day hiatus in the "Tar Heel State" by traveling to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to battle Piedmont International University at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 25. The Warriors will then conclude the trip with a matchup at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 26, in Charlotte, North Carolina, against Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte.
