Women’s basketball struggles against undefeated Southeastern

BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 20, 2018) – Forward Ashley Perry recorded her second straight double-double and fourth of her senior season, but that was the lone bright spot for the Warriors as the Webber International University women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Southeastern, 103-48, on Saturday afternoon at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

Perry finished with 14 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and two assists, and was one of four Warriors with two steals. Montrese Weller scored nine points on three 3-pointers while matching Breyonna Reed with a team-high three assists. Jakia Davis and Tiffany Zito both added six points while Zito also added six rebounds.

Making her season debut for the Warriors was Elise Hinson, who finished with two points and four rebounds, and Jakella Davis played for the second time in her career as a Warrior, and pulled in the first two rebounds of her season.

Webber (7-14 overall, 2-9 The Sun Conference) never led in the game and trailed by 18 (28-10) after only one quarter.

Southeastern (20-0, 11-0) led by as much as 31 (45-14) in the first half with 2:22 to go before the break. The Fire led by 49 (75-26) with 1:53 left in the third quarter, and then led by 57 twice in the fourth quarter before winning by 55.

Webber struggled in all aspects of the game, shooting under 30 percent from the field in both halves while finishing only 25 percent from three and only 57.9 percent from the free throw line. Webber also tied a season-high with 31 turnovers.

Next up, Webber will take on Trinity College (Fla.) in nonconference action in Trinity, Florida. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 25. It will be the final nonconference game of the regular season for Webber, which defeated Trinity by 41 (89-48) in the first meeting on November 20, 2017, after coming away with 28 steals as a team and outscoring Trinity in every quarter, including a 30-6 advantage in the third quarter.
