Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors football team was in action today against the #9 in the Nation, Saint Xavier University Cougars. In what was a hard fought battle by both teams, the Warriors came out on top by a score of 36-31.

The Warriors and Cougars met today for the second time in both program's history on the football field. Last year, Webber made the hike up to Chicago, Ill and came back with a heart breaking defeat of 34-37. This year, the Warriors had a little bent up frustration to take out on the Cougars.

The first quarter found the Warriors striking first as Desi Villanueva drilled a 21 yard field goal to put them on the board 3-0. In the second quarter, Oscar McGee intercepted a pass from the Cougars and hustled 30 yards for a Touchdown giving the Warriors a 10-0 lead. The Cougars said hang on a second, drove 14 plays for 85 yards and answered with a 3 yard pass from Alex Martinez to Dennis Vilimek to cut the lead to 10-7. Garry Chouloute the quarterback for the Warriors responded when he saw his opening to test out his arm, he connected with Maurice Thomas for a 61 yard unscathed touchdown. This gave the Warriors a 17-7 lead. Saint Xavier had one last thing to say before halftime as they drove 8 plays for 52 yards that ended in a 9 yard pass from Alex Martinez to Stephen Simms for a Touchdown. This sent both teams into halftime at a score of 17-14 in favor of the Warriors.

The second half would see more production out of both teams. The Warriors received the ball to start the half. 8 plays and 44 yards later, Garry Chouloute found Jeremiah Harris on a 7 yard pass into the endzone as the Warriors jumped out to a 24-14 lead. That was short lived as the Cougars answered immediately on their next drive with a 17 yard pass from Alex Martinez to Stephen Simms for a Touchdown. This cut the score to a 24-21 Warrior lead. A little later, Cougars Abdul Mahdi, knocked a 31 yard field goal through the uprights tying the game 24-24 sending it into the 4th quarter. The Warriors defense fired up as Eli Jackson ripped off a pass from Alex Martinez at the line of scrimmage and scrambled 52 yards for a touchdown. The Cougars blocked the extra point attempt leaving the score at 30-24. Nearing the last 4 minutes of play, the Warriors found themselves at the 24 yardline of the Cougars with a 4th and 2 yards situation. In a gutsy move, they handed the ball off to Mario Bargaineer who broke loose for not just a first down, but a 24 yard touchdown. The Cougars again stepped up and blocked the extra point attempt making the score 36-24. The Cougars quickly drove and notched a Touchdown as Jamarri Watson ran it in from 15 yards out. The extra point made it just a little closer as the Warriors held the lead 36-31. The Cougars tried an onside kick and it was unsuccessful. The Warriors kept the ball on the ground and forced the Cougars to use the rest of their timeouts. With roughly a minute left, the Warriors were forced to punt leaving the Cougars deep in their own zone. However, a quick 4 and out found the Warriors lining up in the victory formation as they ran out the clock and defeated the #9 ranked Saint Xavier University 36-31.
