Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Webber International University faced off against top-seeded Southeastern University, Saturday, with the Sun Conference Tournament championship on the line. A tough offensive night plus strong three-point shooting by Southeastern downed the Warriors, 71-52
Deslyn Applewhaite closed out her Webber International career with a strong game. She posted a game-high 19 points on 9-14 shooting. Jessica Colson chipped in with 11 points, while Mar'Lisa Braxton and Quanthavia Stalworth each hauled in eight rebounds.
The Warriors came out at a break-neck pace jumping out to a 10-2 lead. The Fire would storm back, taking advantage of a Webber International cold streak. Southeastern would eventual close out the first on an 11-0 run.
Southeastern carried momentum in to the second quarter, opening with a 12-1 run, pushing the Fire advantage to 23-12. The Webber International defense tightened up as half time neared but the Warriors would go into the locker room facing a 29-17 deficit.
Webber International's offense finally clicked in the third quarter, but Southeastern would go basket-for-basket with the Warriors. Webber International kept pushing, eventually cutting the Fire lead to just four with just three minutes to play in the third. Back-to-back three-pointers kicked off a 12-0 run by Southeastern, putting the Warriors behind ,51-36, heading into the final period.
The 15-point deficit proved to insurmountable for the Warriors as they eventually fell to Southeastern, 71-52.
