MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball traveled south, Thursday, to take on St. Thomas in a Sun Conference Tournament quarterfinal match up. The Warriors went toe-to-toe with the No. 2-seed Bobcats, but a tough second half downed Webber International, 83-66.
Dewaine Lyals closed out an amazing season with another great performance, posting 23 points and 10 rebounds against St. Thomas. Daniel Coffey also had a strong game, scoring 17 points.
The first half opened slowly, with both teams feeling each other out. After 10 minutes of action, it was the Bobcats that were ahead, 18-13. The Warriors offense picked things up, eventually erasing a seven point deficit to tie the game up, 20-20. The lead would change hands a few more times before the Bobcats took control of the half, sending Webber International into the locker room down, 38-33.
The second half proved difficult for the Warriors, as the Bobcats would lead wire-to-wire. Eight turnovers prevented the Warriors from being able to settle into the half and mount a comeback. Coffey has big in the second half, netting 13 of his 17 points. After the final whistle had blown, the Warriors had fallen to St. Thomas, 83-66.
