Women’s Basketball Takes Down Johnson & Wales, 71-54

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball took on Johnson & Wales, Wednesday, for a Sun Conference road match. Strong defense and efficient scoring lifted the Warriors over the Wildcats, 71-54.

Quanthavia Stalworth lead the Warrior offense, posting 16 points and six rebounds. Deslyn Applewhaite netted 14 points for Webber International, also registering five steals. Jermisha Mcrae continues to be a force in the paint, grabbing a team-best eight rebounds to go along her 11 points.

The Warrior first quarter defense continues to be stifling, limiting Johnson & Wales to just six points. After just five minutes Webber International would hold a double-digit advantage, closing out the first quarter up, 19-6.

The offense picked up in the second quarter, seeing 37 total points scored. The Wildcats would try and chip away at the Webber International advantage, cutting it to as low as nine points. The Warriors would close out the first half with an 11-4 run, pushing ahead, 39-23.

Webber International turned up the defensive pressure again in the in the third quarter, seeing the Wildcats score only 10 points. The defense allowed the Warriors to go ahead by over 20 points, nearly going ahead by 30. The Warriors would go into the final period up, 55-33.

With a 20-point advantage in hand, Webber International would cost to a commanding, 71-54, victory.
