Men’s Basketball Falls To Ave Maria, 79-66

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball traveled west, Thursday, to take on Ave Maria in a Sun Conference road game. The Warriors held a one-point lead at halftime but eventually fell to the Gyrenes, 79-66.

Four Warrior players topped the double-digit mark, led by Daniel Coffey's 17. Sam Auguste was not far behind with 14 points, including 12 points from behind the arch. Ronzell Evans had a strong game, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds, registering his first career double-double.

The Warriors came out fast, building a seven-point lead after the first seven minutes. The two teams would battle back and forth for the rest of the quarter, with Ave Maria keeping Webber International within striking distance. With under a minute to play, the Gyrenes tied the game at 37-37. As time expired, Evans powered home a buzzer-beater to send Webber International into the locker room with a 39-37 lead.

The second half saw the Warriors get outscored by Ave Maria, 42-27.

The second opened with both teams playing well. With nine minutes to play in the final half, the Warriors had built a six-point lead, its largest of the game. Ave Maria responded with a 12-point run to go ahead, 68-62. Webber International would see the Gyrenes close the game out with an 11-2 run, eventually defeating the Warriors, 79-66.
