Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball was on the road, Thursday, for a Sun Conference match up against Ave Maria. The Warriors' high-pressure defense dominated proceedings, forcing the Gyrenes into 25 turnovers, leading Webber International to a, 60-53, victory.
The Warriors' frontcourt was stellar against Ave Maria, scoring 35 of Webber International's 60 points. Quanthavia Stalworth led the Warriors with 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Jermisha Mcrae was close behind, netting 14 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Webber International jumped out to an early lead, going up 10-2 midway through the first quarter. The Gyrenes pushed back, eventually cutting the Warriors advntage to one point. After the first 10 minutes, the Warriors held a, 17-13, lead.
Ave Maria and the Warriors would battle back and forth throughout the second quarter, but Webber International would lead wire-to-wire, going into halftime up, 31-26.
The Warriors wrestled control of the game in the third quarter. The Webber International defense ramped up the pressure in the third period, limiting the Gyrenes to just six points. The Warriors' lead would reach as high as 12 in the quarter. Amber Reeves hit a buzzer-beating three pointer to send to Warriors in to the final quarter ahead, 44-32.
Webber International would see the Gyrenes score 21 points in the fourth quarter, but held on to secure the, 60-53, win.
