Box Score BABON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball hosted Ave Maria, Thursday, in a Sun Conference match up. The Warriors and Gyrenes engaged in a tightly contested game with Webber International coming out on top, 83-77.
Dewaine Lyals continues to dominate for the Warriors, posting a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds. Daniel Coffey was strong down the stretch for Webber International, finishing the game with 13 points and six rebounds. Sam Auguste added 12 points, while Ronvell Evans hauled in 11 rebounds.
The Warriors came out fast in the first half but Ave Maria would hit back, producing a tense 20 minutes of action. Lyals went super nova in the first half, scoring 16 points and grabbing six rebounds, while going 5-7 from the field and 6-7 from the free throw line.
The first half would see eight lead changes before the Warriors took control of the game. With eight minutes left in the half, Webber International was trailing, 27-25. The Warriors responded with a 10-3 run to take its largest lead of the game at 37-30. When the first half came to a close, Webber International held a narrow, 46-44, advantage.
Ave Maria opened the second half strong, going on an 8-0 run. The Warriors hit back with an 11-0 run of their own to push ahead, 57-54. The Gyrenes would draw even two more times in the half but the Warriors would never fall behind again.
With two minutes to play, Ave Maria was able to cut the Warriors lead to just one, but Webber International would close the game out with an 8-2 run, winning out 83-77.
