Men’s Basketball Edges Florida Memorial, 72-69

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Webber International University men's basketball closed out a two-game road trip, Saturday, against Florida Memorial University. The Warriors were able to fend off the Lions, 72-69, to snap a nine-game losing streak.

Dewaine Lyals led the Warriors for the second straight games, posting a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ronzell Evans also posted a double-double against the Lions, scoring 11 points and grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds. Joelle Bigham continues to be a spark for the Webber International offense, netting 17 points on the night and hitting the game-winner. Fellow starters Daniel Coffey and Cody Carden also cracked the double-digit points mark, scoring 14 and 10, respectively.

The early goings were tightly contested, with Florida Memorial able to jump ahead by 10 after the first 10 minutes of action. The Warriors quickly responded with a 6-2 run to cut the Lions lead to 26-22.

Webber International regained the lead with four minutes left in the half, 29-27, thank to seven unanswered points from Bigham and Evans. With the game locked at 34-34, Florida Memorial was able to hit a late shot, sending the Warriors into halftime down, 36-34.

The Warriors came out firing in the second half, with Bigham hitting back-to-back threes, eventually putting Webber International ahead, 42-36. Webber International would control the game for most of the second half, going up by as many as six.

The Lions would not back down, eventually retaking the lead, 66-65, with two minute to play. The game was knotted up with just seconds left, when Bigham buried a deep three as time expired, securing a 72-69 victory for the Warriors.
