Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball opened a two-game road trip, Thursday, against St. Thomas University. A tough third quarter would see the Warriors fall just short of a victory over the Bobcats, eventually falling, 72-63.
Deslyn Applewhaite finished the game with a team-best 14 points, adding six rebounds. Jurnee Pettigrew, Mar'Lisa Braxton and Jermisha Mcrae all posted 13 points, respectively. Quanthavia Stalworth was strong on the boards grabbing 15 rebounds, matching a career-high.
St. Thomas took an early lead in the first quarter, but the Warriors would keep it close. A 7-2 run by the Bobcats would put Webber International down, 21-12, heading into the second quarter.
The Warriors would see it deficit reach as high as 12 early on in the second, but a 10-2 run would bring Webber International within four points of St. Thomas. With four minutes before halftime, the Warriors would score eight unanswered points, taking their first lead since early in the first quarter. With just a second left, Victoria Baggett drew a foul behind the arch and sank all three free throws, sending Webber International into the locker room up, 36-34.
The third quarter was neck-and-neck till, with a minute left in the period, St. Thomas ripped off 10 straight points, to take a 55-44 lead.
Webber International continued to fight, but would eventually fall to the Bobcats, 72-63.
