Box Score DELAND, Fla. – Webber International University football visited Deland, Florida, Saturday night, to take on the Stetson Hatters. After a close first half, Stetson was able to wrestle control of the game, eventually defeating the Warriors, 42-13. Senior quarterback
Billy Pavlock starred for the Webber International, racking up 146 total yards and two touchdowns.
The first quarter saw both teams play stellar defense with only one touchdown scored in the period. Webber International's senior running back
Darius Page took the first play of the game for a huge 24 yard gain. The Warriors were unable to capitalize on the early big play and punted three plays later. The two teams would battle back and forth till Stetson's Cole Mazza broke the deadlock with a five-yard running touchdown, putting the Hatters ahead 7-0.
The offense picked up for both sides in the second quarter. The Hatters came out fast, pushing thier lead to 21-0. Facing a large deficit, the Warriors responded with an eight-play drive, capped off with a Pavlock rushing touchdown, cutting the Hatters lead to 21-6. With 2:43 left in the half Webber International mounted another impressive drive, but it was cut short by a last gasp interception to close out the first half.
The third quarter was much like the first, with only one touchdown scored. It was the Hatters that found the end zone, building the Warriors' deficit to 28-6.
In the final quarter, Webber International scored its second touchdown of the game. Pavlock orchestrated an impressive 11-play 94 yard drive, tossing a 20-yard strike to
Keenan Davis. The Warriors would eventually fall to Stetson, 48-13.
Webber International is back in action, Saturday, September 12 at 1:30 p.m. against Campbellsville University in the Warriors home opener.
