Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's soccer hosted Florida National University, Saturday afternoon, defeating the Conquistadors, 4-0.
Tim Stanford led the Warriors with two goals, while
Ivan Bakovic and
Sean Whalen were able to find the back of the net as well.
The first half was a defensive struggle, seeing the score stay at 0-0. Florida National was able to fire 12 shots in the first half, but stellar play from sophomore keeper
Angel Rodriguez kept the Conquistadors off the board.
The second half belonged to the Warriors. After struggling to create offense in the first 45 minutes, Webber International exploded for four goals. The Warriors opened the scoring in the 55th minute, after a great pass from Whalen left Stanford wide open in front of the goal.
A confident Webber International continued to attack, breaking through for a second time in the 60th minute.
Sam Todd found himself one-on-one with the keeper and played a beautiful chip over the keeper to a streaking Whalen who finished the chance, for his second goal of the season.
With Florida National on its back foot, the Warriors pressured the Conquistadors in to make multiple mistakes in their own half. One of those mistakes saw
Ivan Bakovic get the ball and fly past the Florida National back line before he played a perfect pass to set up Stanford's second goal of the game.
The Conquistadors attempted to push back late in the second half, but a stellar performance from defender
Ben Bouchier helped preserve the Warriors second shutout of the season. Webber International capped off a strong performance in the 80th, when Bakovic played a perfect chip over the keeper to secure the Warriors, 4-0, win over Florida National.
The Warriors are back in action next week with two road matches. Webber International first travels to North Miami to take on Johnson and Wales, Wednesday, September 23 at 3 p.m. The Warriors close out the week, Saturday, September 26 against Keiser University.
