Box Score 2 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Webber International University volleyball opened the 2015 season with two matches at the Athletes Meals Classic, Friday, August 21. The Lady Warriors took on Baker University first, falling 3-1. Webber International returned to the court for an evening clash against hosts St. Thomas, losing in straight sets.
Vs. Baker
In the first match of the new season, the Lady Warriors pushed the Wildcat's to four sets. Baker jumped out to an early lead, taking the first two sets, 25-10, 25-14. Webber International fought back to win the third set, 25-21, bringing the score to 2-1. The Lady Warriors were unable to force a fifth set, eventually falling to the Wildcat's, 3-1.Â
The freshman duo of Sam Burton and Lauren Dehls started their Warrior careers by leading the team with six kills apiece, while fellow newcomer Sophie Rossard added 22 assists and 15 digs.
Vs. St. Thomas
In the second match of the day, Webber International fell to St. Thomas, 3-0. The Lady Warriors fell behind, 19-9, in the first set, Webber International would take five of the next seven points but lose the set, 25-14. The Lady Warriors were unable to take a foothold in the final two sets, dropping the match 3-0.
Rossard once again lead the team in assists, with 12 helpers. Freshman Kaley Cox registered a team-high five kills against the Bobcats.
