Warriors’ Defense Tame Wildcats in Conference Play, 82-58

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors basketball team took on Johnson & Wales University Wildcats at 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The Warriors won, 82-58.   
 
 
Webber was first to put points on the board.  The Warriors' defense showed out as Wildcats struggled to keep possession of the ball. The Warriors led by 8 until the Wildcats made a point from a free throw.  An unlucky start for the Wildcats -- with 11 minutes left in the first half, the Warriors boasted a 13-point lead, 23-10.  With four minutes remaining, the Warriors did not give any slack to the Wildcats, maintaining a hopeful and hard-earned lead, 36-20.  The Warriors would go into the locker room on top, 44-28. 
 
 
Into the second half, the Warriors' defense continued to frustrate the Wildcats. Within 10 minutes of play, the Warriors had a 23-point lead, 67-44 and didn't look back for a second, fighting hard all the way to the end and taking the win, 82-58.
 
 
Leading the Warriors on the court were: Brian Pace, with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists; Nate Morrell, with 13 points, 5 assists, and 1 steal; Raymond Durant, with 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal; Dewaine Lyals, the defensive leader, with 7 points, 3 blocks, 2 steals, 1 assist, and 5 rebounds; and Daniel Coffey, with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.
 
 
The Warriors' record improves to 11-16 overall and 8-7 in The Sun Conference
 
 
The Warriors will return to action on Saturday, February 14th as they host Northwood University Seahawks at 4 p.m. in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
