Women’s Basketball Storms Past (RV) St. Francis, 70-51

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball hosted (RV) the University of St. Francis, Monday, in the second game of a 10-game home stand. After a tightly contested first half, the Warriors blitzed the Cougars, eventually winning out, 70-51.

Deslyn Applewhaite once again lead the Warriors in scoring with 23 points, adding seven rebounds. Jurnee Pettigrew had a strong game, notching 17 points and eight rebounds.

Webber International played well on both sides of the ball in the first quarter, taking an early, 16-8, lead. Pettigrew dominated the first 10 minutes, accounting for 10 of the Warriors 16 points, scoring eight and registering an assist.

The second quarter saw the teams trade baskets throughout. The Cougars fought back, eventually tying the game up at 20-20 with two minutes before half time. After 20 minutes of action, St. Francis had pulled ahead, 28-24.

The Warriors came out on fire in the third quarter, wrestling control of the game away from St. Francis. Applewhatie opened the game with a one-woman 9 point run, putting Webber International ahead 33-31. The Warriors would go on to score 12 more unanswered points, pushing its lead to 12 points. Webber International would score 24 points in the third quarter, going into the fourth quarter with a 48-40 lead.

Webber International did not let up in the fourth quarter. The Warriors led throughout, seeing its lead balloon as high as 19 points and never falling under seven points.  After the final horn had sounded, the Warriors had defeated the Cougars, 70-51.
