Women’s Basketball Takes Down Florida Memorial, 78-68

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball hosted Sun Conference opponent Florida Memorial University, Saturday. Strong second and fourth quarter's lifted the Warriors over the Lions, 78-68.

Deslyn Applewhaite and Quanthavia Stalworth powered the Warriors offense, scoring 22 and 19 points, respectively. The duo was also dominant on the boards, with Stalworth hauling in 15 rebounds and Applewhaite grabbing seven of her own.

Webber International came out strong, holding the lead for most of the first quarter. An 11-2 Florida Memorial run in the final five minutes put the Warriors behind, 20-14 after the first ten minutes.

The Warriors dominated the second quarter with defense. Webber International held the Lions to only nine-second quarter points on 1-11 shooting. At halftime, the Warriors led Florida Memorial, 34-29, with Applewhaite and Stalworth already with double-digit points.

The Lions pushed back in the third quarter, outscoring Webber International by 10. The Warriors carried over the momentum of the second quarter, pushing their lead as high as eight points. The Florida Memorial offense again caught fire in the final five minutes, closing out the third quarter on an 18-5 run.

Down five to start the fourth quarter, the Warriors' second unit was fantastic, eventually leading Webber International to victory. The Warriors opened the final period with eight unanswered points, with Amber Reeves registering assists on all three baskets. The Warriors would go on to dominate the rest of the game, with their lead ballooning as high as 15 points.

After the final whistle, the Warriors were triumphant over Florida Memorial, 78-68.
