Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball faced off against Florida Technical University, Saturday. The Warriors played well but fell to the Panthers, 78-74.
Deslyn Applewhaite and Mar'Lisa Braxton were strong, posting 22 and 20 points, respectively. Applewhaite went a perfect from the three-point and free throw line, while Braxton dished out a team-high five assists.
The first quarter was tightly contested. After eight minutes, the score was knotted at 12-12. Unfortunately, FIT went on a 7-2 run to close out the quarter, putting Webber International behind, 19-14.
The second quarter saw much of the same, with both teams trading blows. The Warriors opened the quarter with a 6-0 run to go ahead 20-19. Webber International matched the Panthers basket-for-basket but went into half time trailing FIT, 33-28.
The Panthers wrestled control of the game in the third quarter, but Webber International was close behind. A late spurt from FIT put the Warriors down 57-46.
The Warriors offense came alive in the final period. After falling behind by 12, Webber International scored eight-consecutive points, bringing the score to 71-65. A
Victoria Baggett three evened the score at 74-74, with a minute left to llay. Unfortunately, FIT was able to score four-answered and take the game, 78-74.
