Women’s Basketball Drops Road Match to Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Webber International University women's basketball traveled north, Saturday, for a non-conference match up against Brenau University. A tough second and fourth quarter saw the Warriors fall to the Golden Tigers, 79-67.

Mar'Lisa Braxton and Quanthavia Stalworth led the way for Webber International, scoring 17 and 16 points, respectively. Stalworth added 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

The Warriors came out fast, taking an early 9-3 lead in the first quarter. Brenau responded with seven unanswered free throws to go ahead, 10-9. The two teams would trade points the rest of the quarter, with the Golden tigers coming out ahead, 16-15, after the first 10 minutes.

Webber International struggled in the second quarter, only scoring nine points. Brenau put up 19 points in the second, sending the Warriors into half time down, 35-24.

The Warriors responded well after a tough second quarter, getting back on track in the third.  Braxton and Stalwroth dominated the quarter, scoring all but six of Webber International's 22 points. With a minute left in the third, Shaquora Lane hit a jumper to give Webber International a, 46-45, lead. As time expired the Golden Tigers' Autum Dodson hit a three-point shoot to give Brenau a two-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, Webber International was unable to carry momentum into the final 10 minutes. Brenau's offense went off for 31 points in the final period, downing the Warriors, 79-67.
