Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University men's soccer hosted Ave Maria, Wednesday. The Warriors controlled the match throughout, taking down the Gyrenes, 1-0.
Webber International wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a goal in the fourth minute. Ross Clarke played a great ball to a streaking Ivan Bakovic who easily beat the keeper for his fifth goal of the season.
The rest of the half was a defensive struggle with Webber International keeping Ave Maria scoreless. The Warriors forced the Gyrenes to settle for long distance shots, while Randy Chesson came away with two stops in the half.
As time ran out in the first half Bakovic saw a dangerous shot get saved, sending the Warriors into halftime ahead, 1-0.
In the second half, Webber International continued to dominate on defense and the offense continue to create great chances. Bakovic saw two potential game-winners barley miss their mark, rolling one just past the right post and the other finding the fingertips of the Gyrene keeper. Alan Mendoza and Adriano Silva also saw great chance get saved.
In the end, the Warriors tough defense was enough to secure a, 1-0, victory.
The Warriors are back in action, Saturday, October 24 hosting No. 18 Southeastern.
