LAKE WALES, Fla. – With the Sun Conference Championship on the line, the Webber International University Warriors faced a tough opponent in the Southeastern University Fire. The game was a winner takes all atmosphere, knowing that the team with a loss would end their chance at the Sun Conference title. It was the Warriors that wanted it more by winning the game with a score of 28-21.
Webber staked their ground by establishing a dominant running game that featured three players with over 100 rushing yards.
Darius Page, the running back for the Warriors, took the brunt of the snaps ending with 30 rushing attempts for 140 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. With his longest rush being a break out 40 yard scramble.
Billy Pavlock, the quarterback for Webber, put out a brilliant performance of 20 rushing attempts for 122 yards while completing 3-7 passes for 75 yards and a passing touchdown. Pavlock's longest run came from being on their own goal line and breaking through the defensive line for a 63 yard gain.
Brendan Deshields capped off the talented ground attack for the Warriors as he finished with 14 rushing attempts for 108 yards. His longest was a 19 yard run.
The Warrior defense played a huge role in the game coming up with several big stops.
Marquise Harts picked up his 8
th sack of the year keeping him on top of the Sun Conference leader board in overall sacks.
Daniel Booth picked off his forth pass of the year and Edward Brown was able to force a fumble. All of the Warriors defense efforts were successful by keeping the Southeastern offense to only 21 points, when they're averaging almost 39 points a game.
The Webber International University Warriors and the Sun Conference now wait until next weekend when the Warner University Royals take on the Edward Waters Tigers. A Royals win would mean a share in the Sun Conference Title between Webber and Warner. However an Edward Waters win would give the Warriors an outright Sun Conference Championship.
The Warriors season is not over yet. They now shift their focus to Newport News, Virginia, where they will take on the Apprentice School Builders. The game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 8
th, 2014. Congratulations to the Webber International University Warriors for being the 2014 Sun Conference Champions. Go Warriors!!!!!! STAKE YOUR GROUND!!!
