Warriors Take Down Firestorm To Win Second Straight

Box Score Lake Wales, Fla – The homecoming matchup for the Warriors featured the Arizona Christian University Firestorm. Alumni and fans packed in Legion Field today with the hopes that they would see their Warriors come away with their second straight victory. Webber responded to their hopes by giving them a 49-26 win, which makes it their second on the year and moves them to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in The Sun Conference play.
It was Brendon Deshields who started things up in the first quarter for the Warriors with a 9-yard run that capped off a 58 yard scoring drive. The extra point attempt by the kicker Daniel LeZotte sailed through the uprights to give the warriors an early 7-0 lead. In no time at all, the Firestorm answered with a touchdown that was run in for 32-yards by the running back PJ Sparks and the extra point attempt kicked by M. Costello tied up the score 7-7. Webber's Darius Page raised the ante immediately by taking a 17-yard run into the end zone, giving the Warriors a 14-7 lead after the extra point by LeZotte. Arizona Christian responded with another run by Sparks for 7-yards and a touchdown bringing the score to 14-13 Warriors. This time Costello would miss the extra point attempt causing the Firestorm to trail by 1 point. Following the kickoff, to start the next drive, Webber's quarterback Billy Pavlock handed the ball off to Jared O'donoghue who then left everyone else on the field in his tracks and took it into the end zone for a 63-yard run. This made the score 21-13 with a LeZotte extra point. Later in the second quarter, Deshields would also break loose for Webber and scampered in for a 42-yard run, LeZotte again made the extra point for a 28-13 Warriors lead. Early in the third quarter the running back for the Firestorm Mike Brown would cut the lead and punch the football over the goal line, with a Costello kick made, it was 28-20 Warriors on top. With 2:14 left in the third quarter, Pavlock dropped back to pass for the Warriors and found his receiver Keith Hopkins who broke loose and flew into the end zone for a 91-yard touchdown. The fourth quarter added onto the score for both teams with Arizona Christian's Ryan Esslinger 2-yard touchdown run and Webber International's Pavlock and Zach Day both with rushing touchdowns. The final score was 49-26 with a Webber Victory.
Sparks led the firestorm in rushing yards with 20 carries for 114-yards and 2 touchdowns. Deshields led the rushing for the Warriors with 109-yards on 7 carries with 2 touchdowns. Webber's Stacy Williams led the defense with 12 tackles. Arizona Christians Bryton Green led their defense with 13 tackles.
It was an offensive game that amassed a total of 977-yards for both teams. The Warriors came away with their second straight win and now shift their focus to next weeks Sun Conference matchup in Jacksonville, Florida against Edward Waters.
