Warriors Sweep Gyrenes in Conference Double-Header, 2-0

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University men's and women's basketball teams faced off against Ave Maria University Gyrenes in a very important conference matchup that started at 4:00 p.m. in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

The Lady Warriors and Lady Gyrenes started the night off at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Gyrenes would take an eight point lead into half time 40-32 over the Lady Warriors. After the half the Lady Warriors would come out fired up and would out score the Lady Gyrenes 40-25. WIU would win the game 72-65 over Ave Maria.

Leading the Lady Warriors on the court were; #23 Jasmine Singleton with 20 points, five rebounds, and three steals; #24 Yesenia Lora with a double-double scoring 16 points with 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals.

The Lady Warriors record improves to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in The Sun Conference. The Lady Gyrenes fall to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in The Sun Conference.

After a short break the men's basketball teams took the court to end the conference double header. The Gyrenes would start off strong hitting threes to gain an early lead. The Warriors would go to work in the paint to gain the lead and would never look back. WIU would go into half time on top 39-30. Ave Maria would come back in the second half looking to make a run and gain the lead from the Warriors but would come up short due to the great Webber defense. The Warriors would win the game with a final score of 79-74 sweeping the conference double-header.

Leading the Warriors on the court were; #03 Giovanni Poitier with a double-double scoring 14 points with 10 rebounds and six assists, #1 Raymond Durant with 13 points, two rebounds, four assists and three steals, #4 Nate Morrell and #33 Jovany Deceus with 11 points each.

The Warriors men's and women's teams return to action on Thursday, January 9th as they travel to Southeastern University starting at 5:30 with the women and 7:30 for the men.
