Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. - Webber International University Men's Basketball defeated Florida Memorial University in the first round of The Sun Conference Tournament 71-60. WIU entered the game as the 2
nd seeded team in regular season action while FMU rounded out as the 3
rd seeded team.
It was a rematch of the season finale in which WIU won by 2 points last week thanks to 2 missed free throws from Michael Baptiste. Tonight's matchup was expected to be a physical one and it lived up to those expectations. The Warriors scored the first basket of the game on a layup by point guard
Brian Pace and they never looked back. They maintained the lead for the entire game. WIU led by as many as 20 points in the second half but FMU managed to cut down on the lead late in regulation. With 1:56 left in the game, the score was 65-58 in favor of the Warriors.
WIU was able to make their free throws down to stretch that sealed the victory for Coach
John Shoffner and the Warriors. Leading the scoring charge for WIU was
Michael Bonilla with 18 points and 3 assists.
Jakeem Hill had 16 points,
Brian Pace chipped in with 13 points and senior forward
Tyler Auerbacher added 11 points.
With the win, the Warriors advance to the semi-finals where they will face Embry Riddle which will be played on Monday at Northwood University.
