Lady Warriors Dominate Royals On Senior Night

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University Women's Basketball Team dominated the visiting Lady Royals 76-44 in their regular season home finale.

It was a night to remember as the Lady Warriors celebrated Senior Night for 7 of their players on this year's roster. The Lady Warriors dominated the game from the opening tip in what was supposed to be a rival game.  The game was also significant as the Warriors celebrated Coach vs Cancer by wearing pink shirts in support of cancer patients. At half time, all seven of the seniors were recognized for their services and commitment throughout the years. The seniors recognized were Kala Alicea, Shambrika Tomlin, Marjorie Thompson, Erin Henry, Latoya Willis, Kristin Throckmorton and Japhner Luzincourt. All seven of the players were decorated during intermission.

The first half of the game was a defensive showcase as they Lady Warriors held Warner to just 5 field goals made in the first 20 minutes. The Royals shot just 21% in the first half including 1 for 7 from three point territory. The score at half was 35-20 in favor of WIU.

The second half was an offensive explosion as the Lady Warriors applied full court man-to-man pressure on the opponent forcing them to 12 second half turnovers which led to easy baskets for WIU. Kala Alicea had her best game of her career on her senior night scoring a career high 20 points to lead all scorers. She shot 6 for 11 from the field while going a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Senior point guard Shambrika Tomlin added 4 points to go along with 4 assists and 1 steal. Yesenia Lora, who was recently named conference player of the week for the second consecutive week chipped in with 14 points to go along with 3 rebounds. Senior combo guard Erin Henry contributed with 8 points and a season high 4 steals. Marjorie Thompson scored her season high 7 points and Jamine Singleton added 8 points.

With the win, The Lady Warriors improve their record to 12-11 overall and 7-5 in The Sun Conference. WIU returns to action again February 15th, 2013 when they will travel to Miami Gardens to face Johnson and Wales University.
