Warriors Drop Second Straight Game

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Warriors played their final road game of the regular season on Saturday against ranked number 11th Embry Riddle (Eagles).  Embry came out strong and pressured the Warriors defense in the first minute of the game, Veit Couturier crossed the ball into the Warriors box were Sigurbergur Elisson who did not get closed down quick enough slotted the ball into the back of the net. After the goal, the Warriors picked up their game, and created most of the chances in the first half mainly from set pieces, were Sam Willans and Moritz Hoccholzner almost found success in the box, especially from Moritz who put the ball over the cross bar in the 6 yard box. "Craig Hughes and Fabian Egger were on fire with great combination plays with the midfield and managed to get behind the Eagles defense several times" stated Coach Cockburn. Besides the early goal conceded, the Warriors outshot the Eagles 9-5 at half time, but still found themselves trailing 1-0. The second half was a back and forth battle with great chances from both teams, but the Eagles dominated possession and created the most chances in the second half, after a few changes in the last 15 minutes of the game, the Warriors picked up the pace.  Senior captain Sam Willans was close to scoring from a header late in the game but the ball sailed over the crossbar. The best chance of the game came for the Warriors came from Moritz Hoccholzner who placed a cross to Fabian Egger inside the box, but the Eagles defense managed to clear the ball in the last 20 seconds of play! The Eagle outshot the Warriors 19-17, however the Warriors had more shots on target 9-4. "We prepared well for this game, however, we got caught sleeping in the first minute of the game in which we could not recover from, and this is one of the few games this season that I can say every player played with heart, passion and enthusiasm. When the boys all want to win, it's is an amazing what they can accomplish, Embry Riddle is one of the top teams in the country and we went toe to toe with them, we need act this way as a team for the rest of the season!" according to Coach Cockburn.  This makes the Warriors conference record 4-3 and an overall record of 7-3.  The Warriors will end their season with a three game home stand, starting with Ave Maria University on Wednesday October 23rd at 4:30pm.
