Box Score 2 Montgomery, AL. The Webber International University Lady Warriors Volleyball team traveld to Alabama this weekend to compete in the Faulkner University Invitational Tournament on September 7th and 8th.
In the first match of the day, the Lady Warriors would play the Lady Mariners of Coastal Georgia. The first meeting between the teams came earlier in the season with the Lady Warriors come out on top in a tough game winning 3-2. This matchup would prove to be a little easier for the for the Lady Warriors as they would beat the Lady Mariners in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-15).
A trio of Lady Warriors would lead the offensive charge in the match. Juniors
Michelle Einzinger would lead the team with a .400% hitting percentage and 8 kills accompanied by Juniors
Karimah Hay and Chelsea Umana would both added 13 kills each. Pacing the offense, Junior Setter
Katie Lindstrom tallied 36 assist in the match. On the defensive side, once again Sophomore Libero
Tanner Garbutt lead the defensive effort racking up 23 digs in the match.
As a team, the Lady Warriors would rack up 60 digs and 10 total blocks while having a hitting percentage of .210%. With the win, the Lady Warriors improve to 3-0, 0-0 TSC on the season.
In the final match of day 1, the Lady Warriors faced off against the Lady Rams of the University of Mobile. The Lady Rams seemed to be to much for the Lady Warriors this time handing the Lady Warriors their first lost of the season in a thrilling 5 set match with a score of 2-3 (25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 15-11). This was the second 5 set match, out or four matches played, that the Lady Warriors have competed this season (1-1).
Pacing the offense, Junior Setter
Katie Lindstrom tallied 55 asstist in the match and also helped the offense with a .466% hitting percentage with 9 kills. Lindstrom also tallied 15 digs to hep out the defense. Once again Juniors
Karimah Hay and
Chelsea Umana lead the Lady Warriors on offense. Each recorded their first double-double of the season with Hay's 24 kills and 18 digs followed by Umana's 13 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore Libero
Tanner Garbutt controlled the back row recording 40 digs in the match to lead the Lady Warriors defense.
As a team, The Lady Warriors had 3 total aces, 12 total blocks, and an astonishing 114 digs. The Lady Warriors fall to 3-1, 0-0 TSC on the season but look to right the ship with another pari of matches on September 8. Those matches are slated to start at 9:00 a.m. cst against Southern Wesleyan University and the final match at 1:00 p.m. cst against Sprill Hill College.
