Lady Warriors Volleyball go 2-2 in Cumberland Classics

Lebanon, TN.    The Lady Warriors Volleyball team traveled to Tennessee this past weekend to participate in the Cumberland Univeristy Classic.

Day One


Match One

    In the first match of day one, The Lady Warriors were matched up against the Lady Tigers of Campbellsville University. The Lady Warriors and Lady Tigers faught back and forth throughout the game with the Lady Tigers coming out with the victory 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 17-25). Junior Setter Katie Lindstrom paced the Lady Warriors offense with another double-double with 30 assist and helping out on defense with 11 digs. Lindstrom and Freshman Shanice Van Der Sloot each hit .333% in the match followed by Junior Karimah Hay hitting .222%. Hay lead the Lady Warriors offense with 13 kills and chipped in on defense with 8 digs. Sophomore Libero Tanner Garbutt lead the Lady Warriors defense with 12 digs and had 2 assist in the match. The Lady Warriors fall to 7-4, 2-0 TSC.


Match Two

    In the last match of day one, The Lady Warriors took on tournament host Cumberland University. The Lady Warriors would refocus after a lose and come together and dominate the Lady Bulldogs and defeat them in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17). Junior Setter Katie Lindstrom lead the Lady Warriors offense with 32 total assist  and baffled the Lady Bulldogs as four Lady Warriors hit over .300%. Junior Chelsea Umana had 10 kills with a .316% hitting percentage while Junior Candance Doren hit .333%. Leading the offense for the Lady Warriors were Junior Karimah Hay and Freshman Breanna Evoy hitting .474% with 10 kills and .353% with 9 kills respectively. As a team, the Lady Warriors had a .284% hitting percentage.

    On the defensive side, three Lady Warriors had 8 digs; Sophomore Libero Tanner Garbutt, Karimah Hay and Breanna Evoy. Junior Shauna Brown kept the Lady Bulldogs offense at-bay recording 2 solo blocks and 3 block assist. The Lady Warriors improve to 8-4, 2-0 TSC.



Day Two


Match One

    On day two of the tournament; The Lady Warriors first match of the day was against Union College. Once again, the Lady Warriors were focused in on the task at hand and dominated the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-16). The Lady Warriors had a .352% hitting percentage in the match with three Lady Warriors hitting over .400%. Junior Setter Katie Lindstrom paced the offense with 36 assist and chipped in on defense with 10 digs. Junior Candace Doren hit a perfect 1.000% followed by Freshman Shanice Van Der Sloot with a .714 hitting percentage. Junior Karimah Hay and Freshman Breanna Evoy each had 10 kills and hit .471% and .429% respectively.

    Sophomore Libero Tanner Garbutt stepped up on defense and racked up 18 digs in the match and added 2 assist. With the win, the Lady Warriors improve to 9-4, 2-0 TSC.


Match Two

    In the final match of the tournament, the Lady Warriors faced off against the Lady Bears from Shawnee State University. The Lady Warriors fought extremely hard in the match but came up just short of the victory losing 0-3 (23-25, 21-25, 23-25).

    Junior Setter Katie Lindstrom tallied 24 assist to lead the Lady Warriors offense while Sophomore Libero Tanner Garbutt lead the Lady Warriors defense with 16 digs. Junior Candace Doren continued hitting at a high percentage, hitting a .600% followed by Junior Karimah Hay with a .303% hitting percentage with 15 kills in the match. The lose drops the Lady Warriors to 9-5, 2-0 TSC. 

    The Lady Warriors finsh the tournament with a 2-2 record. The Lady Warriors return to action September 28th when they take on The Sun Conference foe Northwood University in West Palm Beach, FL at 7:00 pm.
