Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University Men's Basketball Team drop their conference opener to the visiting Ave Maria University with the final score of 71-59.
The Gyrenes took control of the game from jump ball as they led for almost 40 minutes of the contest. The first half was a struggle for the Warriors who played maybe their worst half of their young season committing 10 turnovers. WIU trailed at half by 14 points.
The second half saw a better effort from the Warriors as they managed to close the gap and came within 6 points late in the second half. The Warriors played with much more energy with their full court man to man defense that led to turnovers and easy baskets for the home team. The game was within close reach with 4:35 remaining in regulation but the Gyrenes seemed to make big plays down the stretch that enable them walk out the Sabbagh Center victorious.
Leading the scoring charge for WIU was senior forward
Jakeem Hill who recorded a double-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. Brain Pace contributed with 14 points and 2 assists. Both
Gabriel Rutledge and
Tyler Auerbacher added 8 points each.
WIU will be in action again this coming Saturday, December 1, 2012 when they visit cross town rivals Warner University in a Crooked Lake Battle. WIU record so far is 2-4 overall and 0-1 in The Sun Conference. Ave Maria improves to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
