Lady Warriors End Season In Conference Semis

Daytona Beach, FL.     The #2 seed WIU Lady Warriors Volleyball teams season came to an end this weekend in the The Sun Conference Volleyball Championships when they were defeated by the #3 seeded St. Thomas University Bobcats 1-3 (17-25, 25-19, 24-26, 19-25).

In a sensational match, the Lady Warriors and Lady Bobcats battled each other in the first semi-final game of the The Sun Conference Championships. The Lady Bobcats came out very focused in the first set to win comfortably 25-17. The Lady Warriors regrouped and refocused to take set two, hitting a season high .536%, almost as comfortably as St. Thomas did in the first with a 25-19 win. Heading into a crucial third set, the Lady Warriors dropped a closely contested set 24-26. The St. Thomas Lady Bobcats would come out and take set four 25-19 with their extremely scrappy defense keeping many of the Lady Warriors hits in play.

All Conference 1st Team selections Karimah Hay and Katie Lindstrom lead the Lady Warriors offensive attack. Lindstrom, a Junior Setter, had 44 assist and 9 digs in the match just missing another double double. Hay, a Junior Opposite, put down 15 kills while hitting .400% to go along with her 4 digs. Just behind Hay was Freshman Outside Shanice Vander Sloot. Vander Sloot had 12 kills while hitting .240% to go along with her 6 digs. Junior Outside Chelsea Umana Joined the offense in a major way with her 9 kill and .263% hitting percentage. Umana came into multiple sets when the Lady Warriors needed a sideout and produced. Junior Middle Blocker Deidre Noble had 5 kills for the Lady Warriors with an efficient .556% hitting percentage.

The Lady Warriors defense was lead by Sophomore Libero Tanner Garbutt and Junior DS Hayley Bennett. Garbutt lead the team in digs recording 15 in the match. Bennett followed closely behind Garbutt with 11 digs on defense.

As a team, the Lady Warriors had 48 assist with a .250% hitting percentage with 66 digs on defense and 3 total blocks.
