Tigers Crawl Back To Victory

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – WIU women's basketball team blew a 15 point lead at half that consequently caused them the game with the final score of 62-58.

In a match up where The Lady Warriors had complete control of the game, the visiting Tigers were able to steal the game from them with clutch plays down the stretch. The first half was dominated by WIU who shot 37% from the field, scoring on 14 of their 38 shots including 3 three point shots. The defense was key for the Lady Warriors as they forced the Tigers in 8 first half turnovers while allowing them to just 25% shooting in the first half. The Lady Warriors went into the first half leading 38-23.

The second half however was a complete turn for the Tigers as they came out as the more aggressive team on both ends of the court. They managed to get themselves back in the game by forcing the Warriors into 10 second half turnovers. The Tigers took the lead with 4 minutes remaining in the game and they managed to make important baskets and key free throws in clutch time, including 2 free throws from Mika Marteina with 6.4 seconds left on the clock that sealed the game. The final score of the game was 62-58.

Leading the Warriors in scoring was junior college transfer Yesenia Lora who had 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assist. Shooting guard Jasmine Singleton added her season best 16 points to go along with 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Jasmine Rodriguez chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block.

The Lady Warriors will take on Eastern Oregon here on the campus of WIU November 18th at 7:00 p.m. as they try to win their first game of the season.
