Lady Warriors Take Sole Possession of 2nd Place With Win Over St. Thomas

Babson Park, FL. In a crucial The Sun Conference matchup, the Webber International Lady Warriors hosted the Lady Bobcats of St. Thomas University. The Lady Warriors came into the match tied with St. Thomas for second place but would leave victorious and in sole possession of 2nd place with a 3-1 win (25-20, 30-28, 21-25, 25-13).

The Lady Warriors come out in the first set focused and efficient, hitting .312% in the set with only 5 errors and taking the first set 25-20. The second set was just as good for the Lady Warriors, hitting .217% with only 4 errors. The Lady Bobcats wouldn't go away in set two and fought with the Lady Warriors but came up short with the Lady Warriors taking set two 30-28 and a 2-0 lead into intermission. In set three, The Lady Bobcats come out to take a big 9-2 lead on the Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors would make a run to get back into the game but would come up just short of the sweep, losing set three 21-25. After refocusing, the WIU Lady Warriors would take set four and the match and sole possession of 2nd place in The Sun Conference with a dominant 25-13, 3-1 win over the Lady Bobcats of St. Thomas.

Junior Opposite Karimah Hay helped lead the Lady Warriors offense with 10 kills and 13 digs on defense to record the double double with a .323% hitting percentage. Junior Middle Blocker Shuana Brown tied Hay with 10 kills and picked up 4 digs in the back row and also was very efficient hitting .211%. Freshman Outside Shanice Vander Sloot came up just shy of a double double, recording 9 kills and 9 digs in the matchup while hitting .226%. Junior Setter Katie Lindstrom paced the Lady Warriors offense with 40 assist and compiled 10 digs on defense to record the double double. Sophomore Libero Tanner Garbutt lead the Lady Warriors on the back line recording 21 digs and also dished out 2 assist. The Lady Warriors defense held the Lady Bobcats offense at bay as the team recorded 74 digs and accumulated 13.5 blocks.

With the win, the Lady Warriors improve to 16-9, 7-1 TSC and the Lady Bobcats drop to 12-6, 6-2 TSC. The Lady Warriors grab sole possession of 2nd place in The Sun Conference with the win. The WIU Lady Warriors will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, October 27, against The Sun Conference opponent Florida Memorial University. The match is due to start at 2:00 pm.
