Lady Warriors Take 5 Set Thriller From Lady Fire

Babson, Park, FL.    The Webber International Lady Warriors Volleyball team hosted The Sun Conferece foe Southeastern University in a Friday night matchup. The Lady Warriors and Lady Fire went back in forth in the match but the Lady Warriors dug deep to pull out the win in the deciding 5th set to win the match 3-2 (25-16, 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10).

The Lady Warriors came out fast and strong in the first set hitting a .375% and dominating the Fire. Not to be extinguished, the Fire came back strong in the 2nd set while the Lady Warriors struggled. In a very even third set, the Lady Warriors stayed focus to pull out the win. Down 1-2 and going into the fourth set, the Fire played their best volleyball of the night to force the deciding fifth set. In the end, the Lady Warriors defensive pride would shut down the Fire offense holding them to a .0005 hitting percentage in the final set to take the conference victory.

Leading the Lady Warriors; Junior Setter Katie Lindstrom dished out 47 assist and added 10 digs on defense to record the double double. Freshman Outsides Breanna Evoy and Shanice Vander Sloot lead the Lady Warriors attack with 17 and 13 kills respectively. Both Vander Sloot and Evoy where very efficient hitting .300% and .286%. Evoy added 10 digs on defense to her 17 kills to record the double double. Junior Opposite Karimah Hay lead the defense picking up 17 digs  while Sophomore Libero Tanner Gabutt totaled 10 digs. As a team, the Lady Warriors defense extinguished the Fire recording 63 digs and 9 total blocks.

The Lady Warriors improve to 14-8, 5-1 TSC while the Fire drop to 7-21, 2-3 TSC. The WIU Lady Warriors will be back in action on Saturday October 20th in a rematch of a tough loss to NCAA D-II Florida Tech. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
