Lady Warriors Held off Lady Falcons in Five

Babson Park, Fla. – Webber International University (4-1) held off Florida College (7-3) in five sets with a score of 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-27, 25-22, and 15-10) on September 15, 2011.

The first game was very competitive; Julianne Dougherty spiked a perfectly set ball from Katie Lindstrom. Both teams traded points throughout the entire game. There were 15 tie scores and 6 lead changes. Kysi Wooden tied the game with a kill from Katie Lindstrom, later the Warriors went on a 4-0 stretch. The first set ended on a service error from Florida College.

The Lady Warriors took the first point in the second game. There were 9 tie scores and 5 lead changes. The Lady Falcons took the second game after an attack error from Lady Warriors.

The Warriors started the third match with a kill by Julianne Dougherty from Katie Lindstrom. That was the last time the Warriors led in the third set. A kill by Devin Jackson tied the game, and a block by Amanda Schaefer gave the Lady Falcons the first lead that they did not vanquish. A kill by Julianne Dougherty from Katie Lindstrom at the end of the game through a defender, tied the game for the Warriors (24-24). However Kerri Taylor answered a kill for a kill to take the lead once more. Kerri Taylor spiked the ball on the Warriors to two more to take the third game with a score Webber International University 25, Florida College 27.

The Warriors did not appreciated when Florida College took the lead in the match, and they were determined to take the take it back and take the match.

Taylor Eiken finished the fourth game for the Warriors with two amazing kills from Katie Lindstrom to end the set with a score of 25-22, and tie the match with 2 sets per team.

In the last game, the Warriors were awoken after Julianne Dougherty smashed the ball from Katie Lindstrom into the opponent's side. Later, Taylor Eiken spiked the ball that was set from Katie Lindstrom through the opponent's double block. After the Warriors took the lead in the beginning, they never relinquished their lead. Lauren Colton played remarkably well; first she spiked the ball from Katie Lindstrom to give the lead, and she blocked a powerful attack from Camille Cline to extend the lead for the Warriors. Taylor Eiken, from the Warriors, finished the game by blocking another powerful attack from Florida College.

Team leaders for the Warriors were Katie Lindstrom, Shauna Brown, Tanner Garbutt, and Lauren Colton. Katie Lindstrom led the team with 54 assists, Shauna Brown led the team with hitting percentage with .348, Tanner Garbutt led the team with 25 digs, and Lauren Colton led the team with 4 solo blocks and 3 blocks assists.

Kerri Taylor led Florida College with 22 kills, and Amanda Schaefer assisted her with 17 kills of her own.

Webber had 62 total kills, 62 assists, 4 service aces, 66 digs, and 13 total blocks. While Florida College had 63 kills, 61 assists, 6 service aces, 63 digs, and 8 total blocks.
