First Year Lady Warriors Outshined Lady Royals

Babson Park, Fla. -  First year Lady Warriors outshined Crooked Lake rival, Lady Royals on Wednesday September 14, 2011 with a score of 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-10, 25-19).

Lady Warriors took control of the match from the beginning of game one by a kill from Raisa Thorne-Romany that was set perfectly by Katie Lindstrom. Julianne Dougherty served an ace the following play. Jenni Cook spiked the ball into Webbers court to come within three points, 18-15; however, it was not enough to take the first game. Ashley Wolfe finished the first game by spiking a beautiful set from Katie Lindstrom. Warriors rallied 25 points, while Royal rallied only 19.

The second game was a hard fought, point for point game between the respected teams. The crowd was on its toes the entire game. The second game had nine ties and six different leads. Warner took the second game on an attack error from Webber with the final score Warner 25, Webber 23.

The fans had an opportunity to win t-shirts or pizza from Pizzano's Pizza located in Lake Wales, Fla. if they could serve the ball on top of pizza boxes, which were set up on the other side of the court, or on the t-shirt. About 50 fans participated in the contest between game two and three.

In the third game, the Lady Warriors took the Lady Royals with ease. Julianne Dougherty had four strong serves to take a 4-0 lead. Kysi Wooden, Ashley Wolfe, and Michelle Einzinger had a dominant game, where they spiked everything on Warner that a first year player, Katie Lindstrom, set them with. Kysi Wooden, another first year player for Webber, smashed the ball through a double block from Warner to finish the third game with a score of Webber 25, Warner 10.

The fourth game was a competitive game, Aysha Nickels took the first point; however, Warriors came back strong with their blocking in the middle of the game that stopped majority of Warner's attacks. Michelle Einzinger had a block solo on an attack from Jenni Cook to reduce Warriors deficit. The next play, Michelle Einzinger and Katie Lindstrom blocked a hard driven ball from Joelle Warring. Lady Royals scored the next six points to give them an 18-12 lead. The Warriors were determined to take this conference game from Warner, and built a blocking wall by Michelle Einzinger, Lauren Colton, Shauna Brown, and Kysi Wooden. Tanner Garbutt served eleven times at the end. Kysi Wooden and Julianne Dougherty killed spiked a perfectly set ball from Katie Lindstrom on their Crooked Lake rival's court.

Redshirt freshman, Kysi Wooden and Katie Lindstrom were the team leaders for Webber. Kysi Wooden had a whopping 17 kill with a .293 hitting percentage, she also contributed with one dig, a block assist. Katie Lindstrom led the team with 42 assists, she also contributed with a kill, 16 digs, and two block assists. Lauren Colton led the team in blocks with seven block assists.

Joelle Warring led Lady Royals with 10 kills, and three digs.

Webber had 48 total kills, 47 assists, 4 service aces, 63 digs, and 14 total blocks (1 solo and 26 bock assists). Warner had 35 kills, 35 assists, 2 service aces, 54 digs, and three blocks (all were block assists).

Webber International University improves to a 3-0 in The Sun Conference and a 3-1 overall records; while Warner University falls to 2-1 in The Sun Conference and a 5-5 overall record.

Lady Warriors will host Florida College on Thursday September 15, 2011 at 7 pm and a conference foe on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 2 p.m.
