Lady Warriors took Lady Gyrenes in Three

Ave Maria, Fla. – Lady Warriors continued their road matches on September 9, 2011 to take on a conference foe, Ave Maria University. Webber took care of business in three games (25-17, 25-23, and 25-22).

The first game started very competitive, Leighann Davis drew the first point where she killed the ball that was set beautifully by Katie Lindstrom. However, Cecilia Eckard tied the first game for the last time. The Warriors kept a consistent attack and took the first game 25-17.

The second game started as the first game, where Katie Lindstrom set another amazing ball for Leighann Davis to draw first point again. The game went back-and-forth to the very end. A kill by Ashley Voudrie caught the Gyrenes within a point to the Lady Warriors, 23-24; however, Katie Lindstrom was not going to allow Ave Maria to take the second set from the Warriors, she had an amazing wise kill on a second touch that was set perfectly by Kristine Monforte. Webber took the second set 25-23.

In the third game, the Warriors started 6-0, where Ashley Wolfe and Julianne Dougherty just killed the ball and increased the lead for Webber. However, Ave Maria did not go down without a fight. However, Warriors were determined to taking the victory, and Katie Lindstrom finished the match with a kill that was set perfectly by Taylor Eiken.

Team leaders for the Warriors were Julianne Dougherty, Taylor Eiken, and Katie Lindstrom. Julianne Dougherty led the team in kills with 12, and 7 digs. Taylor Eiken had 10 kills, 1 set, and 2 digs. Katie Lindstrom led the team in sets with 27, led the team in defensive digs with 15, and she added 2 crucial kills and a block assist.

Ashley Voudrie led the Gyrenes in kills with nine, and Megan Arago led her team in sets with 25.

Lady Warriors improve their overall record to 1-1, and The Sun Conference record to 1-0, as Lady Gyrenes fall to 2-2 overall, and 0-1 conference record.

Webber continues their weekend match this Saturday September 10, 2011 versus another conference foe, Northwood University, at 2 p.m. before taking on the Crooked Lake rival, Warner University, at home on Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 7 p.m.
