Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Warriors strong defense and hot second half shooting gave them an edge over Bulldogs to take the victory 81-75 on Friday December 16, 2011 at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The first half was hard fought by both teams, as they swopped points back and forth. Webber International University trailed Union College 32-30 at the half.
David Marlar led the Warriors in the first half with 10 points to keep his team within two at the half, he also took 4 rebounds.
Webber had 18 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers, 4 second chance points, 6 points on a fast break away, and the bench contributed with 5 points. Union had 18 points in the paint, 6 points off turnovers, 2 second chance points, and the Bulldogs bench contributed with 8 points. The score was tied 3 times, and the lead changed twice in the first half alone.
Warriors struggled at the free throw line with 36.4% (2-8), but shot good from the field with 40%. Bulldogs were perfect from the free throw line, going 8-8, and they shot 42.9% from the field.
David Swan for the Warriors came out shooting strong beyond the arc to give Webber the lead.
Luke Marlar came off the bench hot with his defense; he had 6 steals in the second half alone.
With 10 minutes into the second half, the Warriors had a 12 point lead; however, with a few unlucky calls by the official the lead was relinquished to 1 point with 2:32 minutes to go.
Luke Marlar made two free throws to expand the lead to 3, 71-68. 20 seconds later he took the ball from Cody Miller then was fouled.
Luke Marlar made the two shot to give WIU 73-68 advantage.
Warriors finished the night by shooting 46% (29-63) from the field, 33.3% (6-18) from down town, and 56.7% (17-30) from the free throw line. Bulldogs ended their night by shooting 42.6% (29-68) from the field, 15.4% (2-13) from beyond the arc, and their perfect free throws fell to 62.5% (15-24).
Webber improves to their overall record to 3-4, and Union College falls to 3-11.
Webber will be back in action on Saturday December 17, 2011 versus Reinhardt University in the Sabbagh Athletic Center, and tip-off will be at 5 pm.
