LAKE WALES, Fla. – Webber International University (Warriors) hosted Menlo College (Oaks) on an rainy Saturday afternoon, October 08, 2011. The Warriors were plagued with penalties and two turnovers which ultimately led to the Oaks victory, 13-0.
The first half of the game was a defensive deadlock between the Oaks and the Warriors until the Oaks forced a fumble deep in Warrior territory. The Oaks then scored on a 9 yard pass with 3:43 left on the clock to halftime, 6-0. The Oaks then intercepted the ball on the next Warriors possession which led to another Oaks touchdown, 13-0 ending the first half.
The second half neither team could generate offense as both defensives held strong to everything that was thrown at them.
Leaders for the Warriors on the defensive side of the ball was # 44
Hunter Ovens with 6 solo, 2 assist and 3.5 tackles for a total loss of 13 yards. Also #46
Marcus Rhines had 3 solo, 3 assist and 2 sacks for a loss of 21 yards.
The Warriors fall to 0-5 while the Oaks move to 5-1 for the season.
The Warriors will be at home next week celebrating homecoming (WHITE OUT GAME) as they host state rival Edward Waters College on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. gates open at 4:00 p.m. and the first 500 students/alumni receive a white shirt to support the “WHITEOUT”.
