GLENDORA, CA. – Webber International University's (Warriors) football team traveled to Glendora, Calif. to take on #13 Azusa Pacific and lost, 52-23.
The first half of play looked very promising for the Warriors as they won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball to start the game. On the Warriors first possession the scored on an 8 play drive covering 74 yards with a run by Deonte Fielder's 4 yard run giving the Warriors a 7-0 lead. The Cougars responded with their own scoring drive to tie the game, 7-7. Azusa Pacific then controlled the rest of the first half scoring on a field goal and a touchdown giving them a 17-7 lead. The Warriors then mounted a last minute drive scoring with a 42 yard field goal from Mason Prater with 26 seconds left in the first half, 17-10.
The second half the Cougars scored on their opening drive giving them a 14 point lead, 10-24. The Warriors responded with a touchdown from a 26 yard reception by Chris Heart pulling the Warriors within 7 points, 24-17. The Cougars then took control of the game scoring 28 unanswered points giving them a commanding lead, 52-17. The Warriors scored the last points of the game with a 14 yard reception by Justin Sanders ending the game, 52-23.
Leaders for the Warriors on offense were Justin Sanders, Chris Hart, and Deonte Fielder all scoring touchdowns for the Warriors. Mason Prater was also a scorer for the Warriors being 1-2 in field goals making a 42 yard attempt in the second quarter.
Leaders for the Warriors on defense were #25 Ricky Carlson and #42 Nate Keller both having 4 unassisted tackles and 7 assisted tackles each.
The Warriors record falls to 0-4 while the Cougars record improves to 4-1.
The Warriors will be at home next week, Saturday, October 8, 2011, as they host Menlo College starting at 1:00 p.m.
