LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Webber International University (Warriors) Football team collected their first win of the season as they defeated Edward Waters College(EWC) in their homecoming (Whiteout) matchup, 24-14.
The Warriors took an early lead in the game scoring in the first 4:00 minuets of the game on a six yard run by
Deonte Fielder which capped off the seven play 60 yard opening drive for the Warriors. The rest of the first half was a battle of defense as neither team could move the ball.
In the second half EWC tied the game with a five yard run from Turman Brandon that was set up by recovering a Warrior fumble. The score would remain tied, 7-7, until
Mason Prater's field goal of 27 yard putting the Warriors back on top, 10-7. With 4:01 remaining in the game Erik McQueen ran for a 26 yard touchdown giving the Warriors a, 17-7 lead. EWC would answer with a touchdown pass to Samuel Charles with 1 minute 30 seconds left in the game, 17-14. EWC would try an onside kick but the Warriors were able to control the ball giving the Warriors great field position. The Warriors would put that field position to good use scoring the final touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game, 24-14.
Leading the Warriors on offence was Erik McQueen as he rushed 12 time for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Torrance Moise was 12 for 20 in passing for 121 yards.
Leading the Warriors on defense was
Ricky Carlson with 5 unassisted tackles and 5 assisted tackles. Also
Marcus Rhines helped out with 5 unassisted tackles, 2 assisted tackles and 1 sack.
The Warriors record improves to 1-5 and EWC record falls to 2-4.
The Warriors will be on the road next week, Saturday, October 22, 2011, as they take on Huntingdon College in Huntingdon, Alabama starting at 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time or 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
