Babson Park, Fla. – The Lady Warriors open their season at a home invitational tournament. The day ended for the ladies with two wins and a close loss in the deciding game Saturday, (August 28th), evening.
The Lady Warriors took Clearwater Christian College for their opening season game. It was a match that went to five games. Head Coach Tim Edfors saw what his girls can do, and can be proud of them to start their season on the right foot.
The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Cougars with a 3-2 win (25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 25-27, 15-9). Leading the way in the first game was senior Taylor Smith. Smith had 11 kills with no errors, 17 digs, and 7 serving aces. Senior
Sophie Zillmann had 22 assists in the first game of the season.
In the second match, The Lady Warriors put out the Fire in three games (25-16; 25-22; 26-24) to go for the second win in the invitational and the season. Junior
Julianne Dougherty helped her team to a win with 11 kills, 3 digs, and a solid block. Her true freshman teammate,
Kristine Monforte, stepped up big with 15 assists verses the Southeastern University. She will be a great asset to the team.
The Lady Warriors ended the invitation verses their local rival, Warner University, in a close loss. They started the match with two losses (24-26, 12-25), but they did not hold their heads. They pulled it together to crush the Royals in the following two games (25-16, 25-18).
The Lady Warriors went back and forth with the Royals, but in the end they just missed the finish line by a hair (11-15). Again in the third match the leaders were
Julianne Dougherty and
Kristine Monforte.
Julianne had 17 kills, 4 serve aces, 8 digs, and to top it off , she had two blocking assists. While Kristine had 29 assists, two serving aces, 11 digs, and we cannot forget her three kills in this match verses Warner.
Webber will be hosting Trinity College Wednesday September 1, 2010. The game will start at 2 p.m. at Sabbagh Athletic Center located at Webber International University campus.
