BABSON PARK, FL – Webber International University's football team improves their record with a 17-14 win over the Builders of Newport News Apprentice, Saturday, October 31st.
The Warriors look to take on the Knights of Southern Virginia University, Saturday, November, 7th, with a 1p.m. kick-off. This will be the Warriors Senior Day, as this will be the Warriors last home game of the season.
Jamal Rodman led the Warriors with 4 receptions for 44 yards and one touchdown, Kenzer Obando with 3 receptions for 50 yards and Jared Mitchell adding 3 receptions for 40 yards. Torrance Moise rushed 10 times for 55 yards, Taylor Atwood rushed 8 times for 27 yards and Malcolm Solomon added with 5 carries for 19 yards and one touchdown.
Warriors quarterback, Torrance Moise, was 17 of 22 for 174 yards and one touchdown, with a long of 38 yards and four sacks.
Marcus Rhines led the defense with 8 tackles and one sack, Bradon Barnes added 7 tackles, and Desean Batpstite and Ricky Carlson both contributed with 5 tackles a piece.
The Warriors put points on the board first with a 9 yard run by, Malcolm Solomon, allowing the Warriors a 7-0 over the Builders in the first quarter.
Finding a way back into the game the Builders attempted a good 36 yard field goal, which only left them trailing the Warriors by 3, at the end of the second quarter.
With a scoreless third quarter for both teams the Builders again put themselves back into the running with another good field goal attempt, 40 yards out, making it a 7-6 game in the Warriors favor.
With 10:31 remaining in the game, quarterback, Torrance Moise, completed a 30 yard touchdown pass to Jamal Rodman for a 14-6, lead over the Builders. After a turnover in downs by the Warrior defense, Webber attempted a good 47 yard field goal by Mason Prater, for a 17-6 lead, and 1:36 remaining in the game.
The Builders manage to put one more touchdown on the board before closing out the game in the Warriors favor, 17-14.
In their final appearance for the 2009 football season, Webber International University will be honoring all police officers, firefighters, military members and military veterans, as they host Southern Virginia University, Saturday, November, 7th.
All active military personnel, veterans of the military, police officers and firefighters are invited to attend the game free. All other members of their party will be admitted for the discounted price of $3.00.
